How He Loves Me

Alone Together
Maria Kreyn

“The way her eyes flicker upwards and dart around when she thinks. Then locks dead with mine when she’s found the answer. She looks at me with such intensity like she’s found all the secrets I worked so hard to keep hidden for fear that if she knew, she would leave.

“But instinctively, as if she read my mind, understood my fears and reassured me that she saw through them, to see the real me. That as long as we had love, respect, trust/loyalty, and humor between us, she would be right there with me, that she’s not so easily dissuaded.

“I notice all the microexpressions of her face, studied them, memorized them. How her right eyebrow lifts just slightly when she has questions; or the tiny furrow of her forehead when she’s sad but is fighting back her tears; or how she purses her lips when there is something on her mind but is too proud to bring it up; or the way she bits the lower left side of her lips when I kiss her just right...

“She draws me in, spreads quickly through my veins like the deadliest of toxins. Before I knew what was happening, it was too late,” he described the moment he knew he was in love with me, as if he was stuck reliving that experience, “The way her breath smells when we kiss, it engulfs my mind. I remember it for days after she’s left. The way her eyes roll back as she tilts her neck to allow my fingers to gently trace her lines. My hands caress her body without my mind knowing, whenever she is close, we’re like magnets. The images of our bodies entangled is imprinted in my memory forever. All blurred into one long movie that I replay it every time I close my eyes.

“The curves of her perfect mouth sends me into a black hole of ecstasy whenever I imagine how she tastes, how soft they are pressed against mine, and then moving across my body. I watch them as she talks, breathes, sleeps. She’s got the most perfect lips. Not bow shaped like mine, but fuller, heart shaped, delicate, sensual.

“She doesn’t smile that much but when she does, it’s so sweet, it sends a rush of warmth throughout my body. And when it's because of me, I would do anything to keep it there, to protect her. In that moment, making her smile is my greatest accomplishment. And when I'm without her, it's the one thing I am constantly racing towards."
